Field Organizer (Former Employee) says"Sierra Club is not a place you want to work. Their management does not know what they are doing. Sad that a historic group like this fails to see leadership skills in qualified, experienced candidates and looks for young and inexperienced."
Advancement Assistant (Former Employee) says"My co-workers were nice, and I enjoyed working beside them. Management had a much higher opinion of itself than was warranted. And that is putting it kindly. Some managers were downright incompetent. Tasks were regularly menial, tedious, and went without any appreciation. Also, the office work ethic was not very strong overall. I would only recommend this place if you are facing homelessness- and even then I would give it thought. Cons: Bad office politics, lazy management."

Takes forever to accomplish tasks. A lot of internal bureaucracy with many tall walls to climb across. Employees aren't held accountable for errors or accomplishing tasks. Communication is terrible and no one is on the same page."

They will get a clipboard and told they are now working on the latest National campaign that has nothing to do with their interest."

Management is still almost entirely white men, who are feminist right up until the point where it involves giving women any real power within the organization. For a nonprofit whose offices are based in Oakland, the headquarters is almost entirely white. Most of the POCs in the office are interns or in customer care. Many layers of middle management whose jobs depend on keeping the status quo."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"I worked at Sierra Club full-time for more than 5 years Cons: Very hard to move upward in the organization without sucking up or overworking yourself to endear yourself to your supervisor. Management training is basically non-existent. People are promoted based on seniority or popularity and not given the resources to learn how to manage. Salary is low for most people but was extraordinarily high for some senior executives who likely cost the organization more than they created in donations/etc. At the time, upper management/HR was very anti-union and would outright lie about how the contract limits them from giving promotions/raises/etc. New top level hires would not take the time to learn about the current structure or past of the Club and this would prevent them from being effective, but not from drawing huge salaries."

In may case, there wasn't any updates on my performance which would have been helpful. While I was there, I didn't feel like there were any opportunities to grow within my department."
